Doris Jean Gingrich, 83, of Harrisburg, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021, at Hershey Medical Center. She was born in Tyrone, daughter of the late James Russell Sr. and Dorothy Arvinta (Bailey) Haverstine.
Doris graduated from John Harris High School in 1956. She retired from the Social Security Administration after 38 years.
Doris enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, completing puzzles, all kinds of crafts, watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, NCIS, old westerns, Elvis movies, and NASCAR. She previously enjoyed canning, cooking and baking, and was well-known for her peanut butter fudge. Most of all, Doris enjoyed spending time with her beloved family at home.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 43 years, James Edward Gingrich (2002) and her grandfur-baby, a black lab, "Lucy."
Surviving are her two loving daughters, Cindy Gingrich-Kohler (David Kohler) of Camp Hill and Sherry Gingrich of Harrisburg; and a brother, James Russell Haverstine Jr. (Sarah) of Altoona; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services are at the discretion of the family.
Arrangements are by Central Pennsylvania Cremation Society Inc., Harrisburg.
