Chester Harry ‘Chet’ Lafferty Jr.

Chester Harry “Chet” Lafferty Jr., 73, of Altoona, died Wednesday morning at Van Zandt VA Medical Center. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Chester Harry Sr. and Helen (Morgan) Lafferty.

He married Beverly G. Hines on Oct. 16, 1981, in Altoona.

Chet is survived by his wife, Beverly; two daughters, Rhonda (Cory) Seymour and Kelsey (Mike) Renz; a son, Chester H. III; grandchildren, Dylan, Morgan, and his special grandson, Lawson, who thought grandpa was his hero; two sisters, Marge Gutshall and Marilee Lafferty; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his half-brother, Ron Morgan; and a grandson, Brendan Seymour.

Chester was a member and enjoyed his friends at the Catholic War Veterans, Cesare Battisti Club, Altoona Moose and Newburg Fire Association. Chester was an avid camper and loved the outdoors and playing pinochle. He especially enjoyed being with his wife, children, grandchildren and his dog, Syd.

He served in the Army as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War.

Chet was a Carman/Welder for Norfolk Southern at the Hollidaysburg shops.

He graduated from Altoona Area High School, Class of 1966.

A Celebration of Life service will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, at Newburg Fire Hall, 2808 Washington Ave., Altoona.

Arrangements are by Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona.
