The Rev. Mark Alan Rhodes

The Rev. Mark Alan Rhodes, 69, of Sykesville, Md., formerly of Lakemont, went home to heaven on Monday. He was born in Derry, son of the late Rev. Wayne Sr. and Edith (Edsall) Rhodes.

Surviving are daughters, Laura (Jeffrey) and Valerie (Kyle); a son, Justin (Kellie); five grandchildren: Elizabeth, Nathan, Penelope, Theodore and Genevieve; five siblings: Cheryl (Jack), Wayne Jr. (Ruby), Lorraine (John), Carol (Paul) and David (Karen); and many dear friends, including his best friend, Pastor Ken Smith.

Mark graduated from Derry High School in 1970, and then earned a Masters and Doctorate of Divinity degree at Manahath Christian College.

Mark retired as the pastor of Lakemont Church of God after serving 28 years. He also served as a hospital chaplain at UPMC Altoona for 25 years.

He was a teacher and past President of Altoona Bible Institute.

Mark shared the love of Jesus with others through the way he lived his life every day. He was a true Disciple of Jesus. Mark was a kindhearted, gentle and humorous man who loved Jesus, his family, his friends, reading, watching Penn State football and sharing the Gospel.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. with Pastors Ken Smith and Wayne Rhodes officiating. Interment will be at Hopewell Cemetery.
