Patrick Martin Miller, 69, of Altoona, died unexpectedly Wednesday at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late John “Jack” and Gertrude (Wertzberger) Miller.
On May 31, 1986, he married Susan E. Perry at First Presbyterian Church, Hollidaysburg.
Along with his wife of 35 years, Patrick is survived by a son, Trent P. Miller; numerous extended family; and friends he held dear to his heart.
Patrick was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis “Denny” Miller.
He was a 1970 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School and attended Penn State Altoona and Penn State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in community development.
Patrick was the executive vice president of Altoona Blair County Development Corporation and executive director of Greater Altoona Economic Development Corporation. He was a board member of the Pennsylvania Economic Development Association. Patrick strived to make Altoona and the surrounding communities a better place.
He was also involved with the Altoona Parking Authority, Blair County Community Action Agency, Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee, Penn State Altoona Athletics Advisory Council and the Old Timers Baseball League.
Patrick enjoyed watching baseball, basketball, Penn State football and Pittsburgh sports teams. He was very active in playing baseball and basketball into his 50s. Patrick run in 10 Pittsburgh Marathons, completing 26.2 miles each race.
He loved spending time with family and especially enjoyed watching his son, Trent, play for the Penn State Blue Band. Patrick also enjoyed playing golf in his free time.
Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2021, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona; and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021, at Altoona Bible Church, 3017 Union Ave., Altoona, where a 10 a.m. funeral service will be held with Pastor Stewart McClelland officiating.
Interment will be made at Calvary Cemetery.
