Leona “Lee” Schmitt-Moses, of Altoona, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. Lee was born in Coupon, daughter of Thelma Kowalcyk and Cy Heim. At the age of 20 months, she was adopted by her beloved Mom and Dad, David and Antonia Civiello of Altoona.
Lee was married twice, first to Louis C. Schmitt Sr. in Cumberland Md., on July 20, 1962. Together they had nine children. On May 24, 1994, she married David E. Moses in Winchester, Va., to whom she remained married until his death in 2015.
She is survived by her beloved children: Louis (Helen) Schmitt Jr., Sally (Scott) Adams, Christina (Timothy) McClellan, Regina (John) Kachur, David (Pam Weyant) Schmitt, Matthew Schmitt and Shannon (Tabitha) Schmitt, all of Altoona, Louanne (Keith Hemminger) Weaver in South Carolina and Stephanie (Derek) Strasser in North Carolina; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two special cousins, Anthony Russo and Agatha Pacifico.
Lee earned an associate degree in paralegal studies from Penn State Altoona. She worked as a legal secretary until her retirement in December 2000.
Funeral arrangements by The Good Funeral Home, 108 Alto Reste Park Altoona, are private and interment will be at Alto- Reste Park.
Per Lee’s request, no “in lieu of flowers.” She loved flowers.
