Allen Dean Forshey

March 1, 1932 – Oct. 9, 2021

Allen Dean Forshey, 89, Altoona, ascended to his eternal home Saturday. Dean was the first born of the now deceased Ernest and Elizabeth Forshey’s 12 children.

Dean held numerous jobs while attending high school to help provide for his family. He graduated from Bellwood-Antis and went into business with his father selling junk cars. This business grew and became the main source of income for the family for the next 40 years.

Dean served as corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and upon his return earned his engineering degree from Penn State. He used his professional engineering license for the next 30 years working at PennDOT and the Department of Environmental Resources. Additionally, he owned and operated his own auto related business for 34 years.

He was active in his local church as a teacher, youth leader, deacon and trustee, and became chairman of Christian Business Men’s Committee in Altoona and Harrisburg. Dean loved to travel and visited all 50 states, many countries in Europe and even walked on the Great Wall of China — a lifelong dream. He enjoyed camping and taking roads he had never traveled before. He shared a great amount of time with his grandchildren creating memories that will always be cherished.

Dean married the love of his life, Iva Kirkpatrick, with whom he shared the past 66 years. He is survived by his wife; and two children: a daughter and her husband, Deana and George, and their children, Craig and Emma; a son and his wife, Kirk and Bev, and their two children, Joel, and his wife, Julie, and their children, Jolene and Joy, and Johnathan and his fiancee, Kelly, and her daughter, Bria.

Of Dean’s 11 siblings, five remain: Sarah, James, Betty Jane, Richard and Gary. Six siblings preceded him in death: Jackie, Robert, Ernest, Shirley, Audrey and Harold. He will be greatly missed but will remain forever in our hearts.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at Grace Bible Church, 164 Laurel Lane, Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Lou Hileman officiating.

Arrangements are by Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona.
