Ruby L. Jenkins, 90, left this earth on Saturday to be with her Heavenly Father, at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Bennettsville, S.C., to John Henry and Luetisher (Stubs) Jacobs. Ruby married Dairy Jenkins on Jan. 17, 1953.
Ruby leaves eight children to mourn: Larry (Teri) Jenkins, Linda (Ronald) Harrison, David (Debbie) Jenkins, Natalie Moore, Ralph Jenkins, Gail Anthony, Mark (Stephanie) Jenkins and Eric Jenkins.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Dairy, who passed away on Dec. 11, 1976. Also preceding her in death are 10 siblings: Louisa Irby, Mary McCrae, Henry, Benny, Elliott, Ida Mae Green, Katie Bell Nelson, Hattie Jacobs, James L. and Johnny.
Ruby leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Russell Witherspoon, Kyla Dollar, Jason Witherspoon, Derrick Jenkins, LaNika Andrews, Brianne' Moore, Kenneth Andrews, Markisha Jenkins, Candice Harrison, Caleb Jenkins; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She worked as an attendant at Mercy Hospital in Altoona for 10 years, and retired in 1992.
Ruby was a true woman of God. She was an active member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she enjoyed belonging to the church choir and assisting in mission projects. Ruby loved spending time with her family, church family and friends. She enjoyed traveling to visit with her family that's scattered across the country.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2121 Fifth Ave., Altoona, PA 16602. A funeral service will follow at noon, with the Rev. Keith R. Moore officiating. Committal will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
