Gary D. Snowberger, 66, of Roaring Spring, suddenly passed away Thursday morning at UPMC Altoona after an apparent heart attack. He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Paul E. and Geraldine (Taylor) Snowberger.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa (Butler) Snowberger of Roaring Spring; a brother, Dennis Snowberger and wife, Lois, of Endicott, N.Y.; a sister, Penny Eshelman and husband, George, of Roaring Spring; two nephews, Daniel Snowberger (Elizabeth) of Binghamton, N.Y., and Travis Eshelman and wife, Amy, of Altoona; a niece, Debra Droubay and husband, Tony, of Murphys, Calif.; and a great-nephew, Connor Eshelman of Altoona.
Gary was preceded in death by two infant siblings, Kenneth and Nancy.
He was a 1972 graduate of Central High School, a 1976 graduate of Penn State University with a BS in Music Education, majoring in brass, where he was also in the Penn State Blue Band. He also took pastoral ministries classes at Saint Francis.
Gary had been employed in the Pennsylvania State Prison System in Rockview and Huntingdon; Warnaco; and was currently employed at NPC Inc., Claysburg.
He was a member of Bare Memorial Church of God, Roaring Spring, where he was very active in the music ministries of the church. He loved anything involving music: singing in the Roaring Spring Community Choir, participating in the Tyrone Guards Drum and Bugle Corps. and singing in the gospel group, Kings Choir. He also loved helping and working in the pits for Lester "Sam" Stiffler Racing Team, and he loved animals, especially his pets: Pepper, Sweet Pea, Precious and Halloween.
Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Monday, May 3, in the Bare Memorial Church of God, Pastor Steve Dibiase officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gary's memory may be given to the Bare Memorial Church of God, 508 East Main St., Roaring Spring, PA 16673; or Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
