Wilbert Lee "Wib" Hite, 89, of Roaring Spring, died Friday at home after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Roaring Spring, the son of the late Dr. Earle M. and Marie (Kauffman) Hite. He was twice married, first to Dolores Leedy, who preceded him in death, and then to Delores Empfield.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years; three children: Marsha Bechtel and husband, Reed; Krista Hillegas and husband, Jim; and Jeffrey Hite and wife, Brenda; three stepchildren: Vicki Marthinsen and husband, Bob; Dan Sandrus and wife, Dana; and Mark Sandrus; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Benner; and a brother, Earle M. Hite Jr.
Wib was a member of Hollidaysburg First United Methodist Church and a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Roaring Spring. He was a 1949 graduate of Roaring Spring High School and a graduate of Lycoming College. He served in the United States Army. He retired from Nabisco.
Wib enjoyed golf and sports and had coached Roaring Spring Little League, served on the Spring Cove and Vo-Tech School Boards, and was a 60-year Lions Club member, currently in the Lakemont Lions Club.
Due to COVID-19 limitations, a service will be held at the convenience of the family by Pastor John Goddisart. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.
Interment will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring.
