Elmer Aungst Jr., 97, of East Freedom, died Monday at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring, after a brief illness. He was born in Brooks Mills, son of the late Elmer Aungst Sr. and Mabel (Boyer) Aungst.
He married Betty J. Flaugh on March 16, 1943, and she died March 20, 2008.
He is survived by three children: Ronald G. Aungst and wife Georgia of Brooks Mills, Bonnie L. Norris of Indiana, Pa., and Gary L. Aungst and wife Susan of Martinsburg; nine grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wilfred "Bill" Aungst and wife Audrey of Martinsburg.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Elmer was a member of Grace Fellowship Church - Leamersville Campus.
He was a 1941 graduate of Morrison Cove High School and was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving in the military police.
He retired from New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. Inc. in 1984 with over 20 years of service and had previously been employed as a carpenter and at the Pennsylvania Railroad.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and making wood toys.
He was a member of the East Freedom Lions Club.
Due to COVID-19 limitations, service will be private at the convenience of the family by Pastor Mark Lingenfelter. Interment will be made in Claysburg Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Elmer's memory may be given to the Grace Fellowship Church - Leamersville Campus.
