Joshua Allen McConnell

He was employed as an executive chef at various restaurants in Chicago, Ill., for 20 years.

Joshua was a high school graduate and attended Altoona Area High School. He enjoyed hiking, was a cross country runner and an avid sports fan of the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Bears, Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers and Penn State. He loved animals, nature and St. Francis was his patron saint.

He is survived by his mother, Marcella A. Fickes of Altoona; father, Richard F. Fickes of Altoona, who raised Joshua; Elsa Olson, beloved friend in Chicago; sons, Nathaniel M. “Nate” Brown of Altoona and Seth R. and Gabriel McConnell of Morehead City, N.C.; a daughter, Morgan Betz of Altoona; a grandson, Ryland Brown of Altoona; a sister, Aubree Lee Jones of State College; his grandmother, Marianne Muri Banholzer; a niece; a nephew; and several aunts and uncles.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2020, at Good Shepard Catholic Church, State College, Father Charles M. Amershek, celebrant. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

There will be no public visitation due to COVID-19 restrictions.
