Miriam B. Holtz

Miriam B. Holtz, 85, Tyrone, died Saturday at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon.

She was the daughter of the late George C. and Marian E. Gates Bowman. On July 22, 1978, she married Richard H. Holtz who precedes her.

Surviving are a brother, Dean (Bev) Bowman of Bradenton, Fla.; eight nieces and nephews: Jeff (Debby) Bowman, Andrea Bowman, Beth Nichols, Leslie Bowman, Manita Keach, Chris (Beth) Bowman, Charlie (Lisa) Barkman and Sue Barkman.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel B. Barkman; two brothers: John “Jack” Bowman and Baby Lynn Bowman; and two nephews: John and David Bowman.

Miriam was a 1952 graduate of Tyrone High School and a 1956 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University. Upon graduation, she worked in Bethesda, Md., for the NIH in the clinical pathology lab from 1957-78, before moving home and working at the Altoona Hospital as the supervisor of the clinical lab until her retirement in 1995.

Miriam was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Alpha Mu Tau, The Order of the Eastern Star, where she once served as a Matron, the Tyrone Women’s Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed Penn State football and traveling.

An 11 a.m. memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, at the First English Lutheran Church of Tyrone, Pastor Sharon Erb officiating. Arrangements are by Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone.
