Scott Eric Clapper, 60, formerly of Altoona, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Medical Center in Temple, Texas, after an extended illness.

He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Boyd Clapper and Joleen (Dewald) Clapper.

Surviving are a son, Brandon Clapper of Altoona; a daughter, Megan Clapper of Altoona; five grandchildren: Izabella and Braxton Clapper, Bentlee and Bailee Williams and Ryland Patterson; three sisters: Wendy (Rod) Cornelius and Susan (Terry) O’Connor, both of Altoona, and Tracy (Jeff) Chapman of Clinton, Miss.; and a brother, Edward (Christine) Clapper of Manning, S.C.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Saylor Patterson.

Scott was a 1977 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School. He was a six-year veteran of the U.S. Army, having served at the Redstone Arsenal Army Base in Huntsville, Alabama, and in Germany. Scott was employed by the Altoona Area School District in the maintenance department and held various construction jobs in the Austin, Texas, area.

Scott enjoyed collecting and displaying fossils and had a passion for creating works of art from everyday, ordinary objects.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019, at Carson Valley Church of the Brethren, Pastor Darrell Clapper officiating. A private burial with military honors was held at Central Texas State Veterans’ Cemetery, Killeen, Texas. Arrangements were by Dossman Funeral Home, Belton, Texas.
