John D. Blackie Sr.

John D. Blackie Sr., 76, Flinton, passed away Saturday at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late George and Hilda (Bergsted) Blackie. On March 18, 1967, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, John married Judith A. Farabaugh.
Surviving are his wife; four sons: John D. Jr. of Hollidaysburg, Shawn (Jennifer) of Altoona, Mark (Lisa) of Huntingdon and Eric and significant other, Bonnie, of Duncansville; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three brothers: Kenny, Allen and Robert, all of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Evelyn Holland, Anna Mae Beard and Rose Updike; six brothers: Harry, George, Paul, Wayne, Marvin and Steve; and his faithful dog, Gunner.
John was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired From North American Communications as a warehouse foreman and had previously worked for J. E. Nelson and Sons Produce and the greeting card division of Butterick Co. Inc. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching all the wildlife in his yard.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, in Stevens Memorial Chapel by Father Lubomir Strecok. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to Shriners Hospitals, Vietnam Veterans Association or a charity of your choice.
