William L. “Bill” Kinser, 79, died early Saturday morning at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Leonard C. and Mary Louise (Lupfer) Kinser. On March 26, 1960, he married Carol A. Long in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, Carol of Altoona; three children: Tamara K. (Mike) Taylor of Fresno, Calif., Sharon L. (Rick) Gochnour of Brooks Mills and Mark A. (Christy) Kinser of Bedford; nine grandchildren: Kira Taylor, Brandon Taylor, Kyle Gochnour, Katlyn (Jason) Ratchford, Tiffany (Jason) Nedimyer, Josh (Gabby) Kinser, Cory (Alexandra) Kinser, Emma Joy and Skyla; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers: Michael (Phyllis) Kinser and Robert (Candy) Kinser; a sister, Rebecca Kinser; and a sister-in-law, Carol L. Kinser.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy C. Kinser.
Bill was a 1957 graduate of Altoona Area High School, and a 1961 graduate of a piano tuning school in Clearfield. He tuned pianos for many concerts held at the Mishler Theatre and the Altoona Symphony Orchestra. He tuned pianos for Henry Mancini, Roger Williams, Ferrante & Teicher and many other famous musical artists. Bill was also a piano instructor of tuning for Mount Aloysius College for 10 years. He retired as a self-employed piano technician in 2015, after 55 years of service.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, Altoona Ward. He was also a member of the Blair County Game, Fish and Forestry Association (Riggles Gap Sportsman’s Club), the Bellwood Sportsmen’s Association and the Hollidaysburg Consolidated Sportsmen’s Association.
Bill enjoyed playing and tuning pianos, target shooting, hiking and photography.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Feb. 19, 2019, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Bishop Matt Prince officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, Altoona Ward (Humanitarian Fund), 778 Brush Mountain Road, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 or the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
