Donald Arthur ‘Don’ Bulger

Feb. 5, 1927 – Feb. 18, 2018

Donald A. “Don” Bulger, 91, Santa Clarita, Calif., formerly of Altoona, died unexpectedly after a short illness.

He was born in Altoona, son of David and Bertha (Dolby) Bulger. On July 19, 1947, he married the love of his life Anna Pauline Hochard in Winchester, Va. Although she preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 2013, his love and devotion to her was everlasting.

Surviving are a sister, Dayna Bram of Winston-Salem, N.C.; four children: Melody, Chrystal and Douglas, all of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Lynea from Cary, N.C.; and four grandchildren: Dillon, Katarina, Logan and China, all in California.

While attending high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during WW II in the First Cavalry in Japan. Upon his return, during a blind date, he met the love of his life, Anna. He retired from the Altoona Fire Department in 1989 as an assistant chief after more than 30 years of service. In 2014, his children were overjoyed to have their father join them in California where they could enjoy his daily companionship and positive unconditional love.

He was a member of the Fourth Evangelical Lutheran Church, and a lover of nature. He shared this love with his family by taking regular Sunday drives through the mountains surrounding Altoona, where they share fond memories to this day.

Don was a kind and caring gentleman and won the title of “Best Dad” with all his children. Along with being a remarkable husband, Don was also a treasured father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend to many. Don loved and laughed and enjoyed the friendships of others as they all shared a special place in his heart.

Friends will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Pastor Elizabeth Hess officiating. Interment will be at the Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
