Darl N. "Doe" Snyder, 90, Claysburg, died Monday morning at The Village at Morrisons Cove.
He was born in Taylor Township, Roaring Spring, son of the late Walter and Annie (Brown) Snyder. On July 10, 1950, he married Nellie A. Glass in Winchester, Va., and she preceded him in death on June 1, 2006.
Surviving are four sons: Steven Snyder and wife, Ellyn, of Harmony, Kenny Snyder and wife, Shelley, of Claysburg, Tim Snyder and wife, Vicki, of Altoona, and Andy Snyder and wife, Tammy, of New Paris; eight grandchildren: Drew (Annie) Snyder, Rose Snyder, Michael (Michelle) Snyder, Kara Snyder, Greg Snyder, Jarrod Snyder, Cyndi (Josh) Kustaborder and Becki Feathers; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Don Snyder of East Freedom.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Phyllis Snyder, Ruby Snyder and Doris Speck; and seven brothers: Kenneth, Denver, Charles Elwood, Robert, Walter Jr., John and James.
Doe retired from Penelec in 1990 after 44 years of service.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Newry. He was an avid fisherman, enjoying his fishing trips to Canada and Lake Norman, N.C., and he was an avid sports fan, especially scholastic and collegiate wrestling. He was a life member of Ray-Camp VFW Post 7689, Roaring Spring; a life member and past commander of Claysburg American Legion Post 522; and a member of Bedford Moose, Tyrone Elks, Heidelburg Country Club and District VI Coaches Association.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 23, 2017, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Newry, Father Allen P. Zeth celebrant. Interment will be in Claysburg Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Doe's memory may be given to Claysburg Kimmel Athletic Department, 531 Bedford St., Claysburg, PA 16625; Claysburg Public Library, 957 Bedford St., Claysburg, PA 16625; or to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 704 Patrick Lane, Newry, PA 16665.
