Jeremy J. Berkheimer, 33, Altoona, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of Kenneth R. and Susan (Walters) Berkheimer.
Surviving are his father, Kenneth, and stepmother, Vicki, of Hollidaysburg; his mother, Susan Powers, and husband, David, of Martinsburg; a brother, Joshua and wife, Amanda, of Hollidaysburg; two stepbrothers: Andrew Kaehler and wife, Sasha, of Duncansville, and Dylan Kaehler of Hollidaysburg; and a stepsister, Melisa Barclay and husband, Joshua, in Ohio.
Jeremy was a 2001 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He was a 100 percent disabled veteran of the U.S. Army Infantry, having served as a sergeant in Iraq and participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2006. He was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and Combat Infantryman Badge.
In his spare time, he enjoyed kayaking.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg. Full military honors will be provided by Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.
