Marina Lee “Taffy” Lego, 69, Altoona, was taken from this life on Monday without warning at UPMC Altoona.
She was born in Altoona, the youngest daughter of the late John and Tamsun (Harris) Hoffman. On Oct. 24, 1964, she married Johnie G. Lego in Altoona, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 2005.
Surviving are John and Taffy’s three sons: John Scott Lego and wife, Nadeige Choplet, Jeffrey Nolan Lego and Jasun Aaron Lego and wife, Sara; three grandchildren: Jeffrey Nicholas Lego, Thibault John Lego and Quinn Caelen Lego; two great-grandchildren: Jaela Lynn Lego and Kaylee Jo Mack; and two sisters: Donna Stewart of Indiana, Pa., and Cheryl Feathers of Savannah, Ga.
Taffy was the cornerstone of her extended family: always helping, there when needed and the oracle of good sense and hard work. Most important to Taffy was her family. She and John raised their three sons and they had a hand in raising their grandson, Jeffrey Nicholas, and she had two hands in raising great-grandchildren, Jaela Lynn and Kaylee Jo.
Taffy was not a “joiner.” She did not join groups or attend services, but she could always be counted on to help organize a fundraiser or family reunion and to bring a pie or something good to eat to a charity event. She never stopped caring and looking out for others, until now.
She was everything to everybody, and a piece of her – her smile and willingness to lend a hand – will be with us forever. Miss her but let her go.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Grandview Cemetery, Grandview Road, Altoona. Friends will be received at Taffy and John’s home following the service. Arrangements are by The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona.
The family requests that contributions in memory of Taffy be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 or online at shrinershospitalsforchildren.org.
