Darold J. ‘Pap’ Long
Darold Junior “Pap” Long, 85, Henrietta, rural Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord peacefully Wednesday evening at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness.
He was born in Saxton, son of the late Roy and Ada I. (May) Long. He was twice married, first to Patricia E. Nixon on June 24, 1950, in Smithfield, rural Martinsburg; she died Jan. 10, 1990. He then married Gladys A. (Melius) Kensinger on Oct. 20, 1995, in Cumberland, Md.
Surviving are his wife; three sons: Barry D. and Michael S. and wife, Kimberly, all of rural Martinsburg, and Brian D. and wife, Vicky, of Duncansville; a daughter, Gayla P. Miller of rural Martinsburg; two stepsons: Larry Kensinger and wife, Lisa, of Altoona and Robert Kensinger and wife, Renee, of rural Martinsburg; a stepdaughter, Diane Kensinger of rural Martinsburg; six grandchildren: Andrew, Benjamin, Christopher, Kristi, Brooke and Garrett; five step-grandchildren: Dustin, Alan, Ashley, Kirk and Kyle; three step-great-grandchildren: Reece Taylor, Blake Detwiler and Campbell Detwiler; and two brothers: Harry “Don” and wife, Arlene, and Terry L., all of rural Martinsburg.
He was preceded in death by a son, Vincent, in 1992; a son-in-law, Donald Miller, in 1989; and a brother, R. Gary, in 2012.
Darold was a well-known and respected businessman, having established Long’s Tire Service in 1962. Previously he had been employed as a cement finisher for New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Roaring Spring. He attended the Henrietta Church of God, rural Martinsburg.
Darold was a generous and devoted family man of many talents who liked to travel across the world. He also enjoyed family gatherings at “Pine Hill,” rural Martinsburg, and doing landscape work with his bulldozer, “Snuffy,” and he will be sadly missed by his loving family.
Friends will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at Woodbury Church of God, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, Pastor Charles W. Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Church Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be given to Darold’s favorite charity, your favorite local Salvation Army Unit.
