Veterans dinner scheduled
The Well Ministry Center is hosting a recognition dinner for area veterans at 6 p.m. today, Oct. 17. The meal will be held at the American Legion Social Hall, 1501 N. Juniata St., Hollidaysburg. Movie night planned
Twenty-Eighth Street Church of the Brethren will be offering a movie night at the church on Friday, Oct. 17. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for snacks and the movie will start at 7:30 p.m. The movie will be "Just in Time."
Luncheon planned
Second Avenue Global Methodist Church, 130 Second Ave., Altoona, will hold a free luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. All are welcome. Dine-in or takeout available.
Hot dog lunch set
Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., Altoona, invites the public to come to the church for a meal from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. The lunch will include a hot dog on a bun, a variety of homemade soups, apples and a dessert. All are welcome at the church.
Newry bake/craft sale scheduled
Newry Lutheran Church, 1030 Shamrock Lane, will host a craft and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. Homemade cookies, candy, pies and cakes will be available, along with assorted holiday craft items, cat toys, jewelry, dish towels and fall decorations. Lunch items, including sloppy joes, walking tacos, hot dogs, pork and kraut and beverages, will be for sale for eat-in or takeout. For more information, call the church office at 814-317-5287.
Halloween fest on tap
The Saint Mary's Parish Life Committee is sponsoring a Halloween Family Fun Fest from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, in the St. Mary's Memorial Hall, 1418 Fourth Ave., Altoona. Children are encouraged to come in their Halloween costumes. There will be treats, games and coloring activity pages. This event is open to any and all who would like to attend.
Soup fest planned
Altoona Restoration Church of God, 911 N. Third St., Altoona, will be having a "Souptober" Fest at noon Sunday, Oct. 19. There will be a variety of soups and chili, bread, desserts and drinks. This event is open to the community at no charge.
African children's choir
The African Children's Choir will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at Juniata United Methodist Church, 808 N. Fourth St., Altoona.
The choir is marking over four decades of transforming lives through the power of music, education and hope. As they embark on a tour of more than 100 cities, the choir will continue to captivate audiences with their heartwarming performances with a show that blends traditional hymns and African cultural sounds, while sharing stories of God's faithfulness through joyful worship.

Chiz Rider visiting
Chiz Rider will be performing and leading worship at Jaggard First UMC, 1801 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 19. The Rev. Fred Hickok and the congregation invite the public to attend the special worship service.
Joyful noise service set
A joyful noise service is planned for 3 p.m. Oct. 19 at Juniata United Methodist Church. This Service is intended for children with autism, PDD-NOS, ADHD, Down syndrome and any other developmental/physical challenges and families with young children. Blessing of the animals planned
Temple Beth Israel will host its annual blessing of the animals at 12:15 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Temple’s Petsonk Rose Garden. Everyone is welcome to join Rabbi Audrey Korotkin and her rescue dog Sammy for an hour of praying, sharing and enjoying refreshments. The temple will also be collecting donations for the Central Pa. Humane Society.
Worship night organized
Join St. Michael Church, Hollidaysburg, for Holy Spirit Ministry at its upcoming Night of Worship from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21. The guest speaker will be Fr. Justin Treon and praise and worship music will be led by the church's worship team. All are welcome.
Baha'is celebrate 'Twin Holy Birthdays'
At 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, along with their fellow Baha'is world wide, the Baha'is of Altoona and Blair County will celebrate the "Twin Holy Birthdays" of the Bab and Baha'u'llah with a pizza party. The free event to be held at the Wolf Conference Room at ArtsAltoona, 2212 Sixth Ave., is open to people of all faith traditions.

Food pantry distribution set
The food pantry at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, is available for those in need. Distribution will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, by appointment only. Call Deb at 814-207-8293.
Food pantry to open
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Eighth Avenue and 13th Street, Altoona, will hold its monthly food pantry distribution from 2 until 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23.
Food distribution is done on a drive-thru basis to maximize social distancing, and the use of masks is encouraged for those on foot or getting out of their cars. St. Luke’s is a welcoming and affirming church and all new or returning clients are all truly welcome. Donations to the food pantry, either in money or in non-perishable food are always welcome.
Yard sale scheduled
St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 416 Sixth Ave., Altoona, will be having an indoor yard sale in the basement of the church from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 25. There are 44 vendors with a large variety of merchandise and a great selection of merchandise on the additional church tables. The kitchen will be serving hot food and baked goods.
Pumpkin, mum sale ongoing
Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren Youth Group, 28th Street and Union Avenue, will be selling mums and pumpkins to raise money for the national youth conference from noon to 5 p.m. Sundays and from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in October. Pumpkins are $5 and $7. Mums are $8, while supplies last.
Trunk or treat offered
Trunk or Treat will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren Youth Group, 28th Street and Union Avenue.
Exercising your faith
Everyone is welcome to praise the Lord while exercising at the Christian Dance Fitness class from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays at the Groove Fitness Studio, 539 E. 25th Ave., Altoona (Ivyside Plaza). The class is taught by instructor Cathy Chirdon. All fitness levels are welcome. Cost is $7 a class, or $60 for a 10-class punchcard; health insurance fitness plans accepted. Picnics in the park set
The Well Ministry Center will host Picnics in the Park each Tuesday in October at Grove Memorial Park, Sixth Avenue and 23rd Street. A meal will be served followed by games and a message of hope. Kids' music groups meet
Zion Lutheran Church, 500 Allegheny St., has regularly meeting music groups for kids of all ages. NOIZ, ages 4 through sixth grade, and "BIG" NOIZ, seventh grade and up, provide opportunities for singing, hand bells, music theory and even songwriting. Participants are not required to sing and no musical experience is necessary. Sessions are led by Director of Faith Formation and Outreach Ryan Custead and explore how we use music in our life of faith. NOIZ and "BIG" NOIZ also offer music in worship throughout the year. The free program meets in Zion's upstairs kids' music room, and all ages are welcome to start attending any time.
NOIZ meets from 9 to 9:30 a.m. every Sunday from September to May and "BIG" NOIZ meets from 10 to 10:30 a.m. every first and third Sunday from September to May.
