Night of worship planned
Holy Spirit Ministry will host a Night of Worship from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at St. Michael Church, Hollidaysburg . There will be praise, worship, fellowing, teaching and prayer ministry. Father David Dodd, T.O.R., will be on hand with Thermostat Faith and the Power of Testimony.
Church celebrates 151 years
Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2121-5th Avenue Altoona PA will be celebrating 151 years of Serving God and The Community at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 Guest Preacher, Reverend Dr. Louis Butcher.
Chicken barbecue available
Mt. Zion Reformed Church of Pavia will have a chicken barbecue available for pick up beginning at noon Saturday, Sept. 14.
Cost is $15 and includes half a chicken, creamy macaroni salad, baked beans, Pavia fruit salad, roll and cake. Chicken only is $8. This is a pre-order only event. To order, call 814-979-0403 by Sept. 8. Pick up begins at noon Sept. 14 at the Pavia Community Building, 180 Pavia Road, Imler.
Peacemaker Training offered
Peacemaker Training, how to handle conflict in a Biblical manner, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept 14 at Altoona Alliance Church. There is no cost to attend and lunch will be provided.

The Pursuing Peace Together seminar begins with an introduction to Biblical Peacemaker from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.; glorify God from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.; Get the log out from 10:45 a.m. to noon; lunch from noon to 12:45 a.m.; Gently restore from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m., Go and be reconciled from 2 to 3 p.m. A question and answer session will round out the event from 3 to 3:15 p.m.
New ministry to begin
A ministry for single moms will begin Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Faith Baptist Church of Altoona, Fourth Avenue and 40th Street, in the Highland Park section of Altoona..
Meetings will be held Wednesdays at the church and will begin with a free dinner for moms and their children. The dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
Each attendee will also receive a free copy of "The Single Mom Journey Devotional Book" by Sean and Jackie Teis, the founders of the God is my Dad Pennsylvania Chapter.
The group will offer single moms the opportunity to make new friends, enjoy refreshments and fellowship, get involved in group activities and talk with others about issues faced by single moms.
Childcare will be provided for all ages during each group meeting. There is a nursery, Foundations4Faith for Elementary children, and a youth group for teenagers.

Chicken barbecue meals, at $12 each, will be available from 11 a.m. until sold out Saturday, Sept. 7, at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, Altoona. Tickets for the meals are being sold in advance, although there will be some meals available on that date while supplies last. The meals include half a chicken, baked beans, applesauce and roll. The church is also holding a baked goods sale that day, with pies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies and more available.

Church service times changed
Church services will change to the fall hours at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, Altoona. Sunday school will begin at 9:30 a.m. and church at 10:30 a.m. starting Sept. 8.
Afternoon presentations set
Sunday Afternoon Conversations will be held at Himmelreich Library, 18 Market St., Lewisburg, from 2 to 3:15 p.m. every Sunday in September. God's Awesome Creation will be the subject of the talks. A question and answer session will follow the presentations and light refreshments will be offered. Free; everyone is welcome. Scouting open house set
Trail Life USA, a Christ-centered scouting program for boys, and American Heritage Girls, a Christ-centered scouting program for girls, are starting up in Altoona. An open house will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Altoona Alliance Church, 3220 Pleasant Valley Blvd.

First Friday Mass planned
First Friday Mass, confession and prayers will be held Sept. 6 at St. Aloysius Church, Cresson. Prayers begin at 6 p.m. followed by mass and confessions at 7 p.m.
ESL training planed
The Altoona England and Culture Club will offer an English as a Second Language teacher training workshop from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 6 and from 9 a.m. to
5 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Altoona Alliance Church, 3220 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona. Cost is $50 and includes training, three meals and the manual.

Grief share support group to begin
A Grief Share Support Group will meet at Altoona Alliance Church. The group will meet from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 11 through Dec. 11. Women's retreat planned
Author and speaker Liz Kelly will be featured at Jesus Approaches: A Women's Day Retreat set to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at St. Benedict Church.
The day of reflection is based on Kelly's book "Jesus Approaches: What Contemporary Women Can Learn About Healing, Freedom & Joy from the Women of the New Testament."
The day includes mass, adoration, opportunities for confession and fellowship.
The event is free. An offering will be accepted.

Children's Choir concert planned
Second Avenue Global Methodist Church, 130 Second Ave., Altoona, will host The African Children's Choir at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27. The choir will perform popular children's music, traditional spiritual songs and African cultural pieces. Donations appreciated.
Quilting ministry offered
Zion Lutheran Church invites women of all ages to attend Stitch and Sew in Zion's Fellowship Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays. Christian Mothers will recite the pro-life rosary Thursdays after the noon mass at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. The group meets in front of the Blessed Mother Chapel.
