Pro-Life Rosary to be recited
Christian Mothers will recite the pro-life rosary Thursdays after the noon mass at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. The group meets in front of the Blessed Mother Chapel. All are welcome.
ESL training planned
The Altoona England and Culture Club will offer an English as a Second Language teacher training workshop from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 6 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Altoona Alliance Church, 3220 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona. Cost is $50 and includes training, three meals and the manual.

ESL classes will begin Sept. 9 and will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays, September through May. Volunteers need to have the training to take part.
Grief share support group to begin
A Grief Share Support Group will meet at Altoona Alliance Church. The group will meet on Wednesdays from Sept 11. to Dec 11 from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. If you are dealing with the death of a loved one, this support group would be a big help in your grief journey. Picnic lunch offered
St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 335 Locust St., downtown Johnstown, is holding a barbecue pulled pork
takeout picnic lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. Each lunch includes a barbecue pulled pork sandwich, macaroni & cheese, coleslaw and two cookies. A vegetarian option (veggie crumbles in BBQ sauce) is available, but must be requested when placing order. Price per meal is $10. The lunch is takeout only and must be ordered in advance.

Yard, bake sale planned
An indoor yard and bake sale will be held by from
8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2-3, by St. Therese Parish in Father Kelley Hall, 25th Avenue and Fifth Street, Altoona. No donations of clothes, furniture or large appliances will be accepted. Donations of baked goods for the bake sale can be dropped off at Father Kelley Hall on the morning of the sale days.
Churches host vacation Bible school
≥ Juniata United Methodist Church, 808 N. Fourth St., Altoona, will host Stellar-Shine Jesus' Light vacation Bible school from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 11-15. The event is geared for children ages 4 to fifth grade. Participants will join Sol, Como, Ringo, Halley, Luna and Space Dog for Bible lessons, games, crafts and more. ≥ Restored Apostolic Ministries of Altoona, 1500 N. Sixth Ave., will hold "Our Great Big Amazing God" at 6 p.m. Aug. 7-Aug. 9, and at 11 a.m. Aug. 10-Aug. 11. There will be music, games, snacks and lessons.
Night of worship set
Holy Spirit Ministry will hold a night of worship with eucharistic adoration from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at St. Michael Church, Hollidaysburg. Father David Dodd will be teaching. A prayer meeting will conclude the event.
Back-to-school clothing giveaways to be held
Geeseytown Lutheran Church, 462 Route 22, Hollidaysburg, will hold free clothing and school supply giveaways from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, and Saturday, Aug. 17, in the church basement. Future clothing giveaways will be held on the first Saturday of each month. Yard sale items and hot dogs will also be available to purchase in the parking lot, weather permitting.

Catholic Daughters of America, Court 1755, is sponsoring a yard sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at 1200 N. Juniata St. and Cedar Boulevard, Hollidaysburg, across from Legion Park. A variety of items will be available for purchase -- all are welcome.
Free monthly lunch
4th Street Church of God, 4th Street and 21st Avenue, will serve its free month lunch from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3. The menu is fried chicken, green beans, macaroni and cheese, salad and desert. Eat in and takeout options will be available.
Anniversary event set
Old Keller Reformed Church, 8162 Fox Run Road, Williamsburg, will hold its 178th Anniversary Celebration at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 4. All are invited to join in celebration of faith and history.
Festival in the Shade planned
St. Patrick School's annual fundraising event, the Festival in the Shade, will take place Aug. 9-11. The flea market will be held in the school's gym each day. Quilters, crafters and the history of St. Patrick's will be in the hall. Each night of the festival offers the opportunity to enjoy fun, music, food, crafts, games of skill and luck, baked goods, and to purchase raffle tickets for 50/50, baskets, quilts and a wood carving. Hours are 5-10 p.m. Aug. 9-10 and 3-7 p.m. Aug. 11.
Shoe bank available
The Juniata United Methodist Church Angel Feet Ministry provides a shoe bank service to children birth to 9th grade. The ministry provides sneakers, socks and a new book to children visiting the program. Eligibility is based on medical assistance, CHIP or referral to the ministry. Parents may call for an appointment and must accompany their child to the shoe bank. Children may visit the shoe bank at 6-month intervals. Availability of shoes is dependent on contributions and inventory.

Tickets available for stuffed shell dinner
The Greenwood United Methodist Church is holding a Delgrosso's stuffed shell fundraiser on Aug. 10. Tickets for the meal are $12. The meal includes five shells, two meatballs, salad, roll and dessert. Meals can be picked up between 5 and 7 p.m. Aug. 10, at the church, 1505 E. Walton Ave., Altoona. All meals are packed to go, although everyone is invited to eat at the church. Tickets should be purchased in advance, as the meals sell out quickly. Quilting ministry offered
Zion Lutheran Church invites women of all ages to attend Stitch and Sew in Zion's Fellowship Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays.
