Ebensburg readies for homecoming

EBENSBURG — What started out in 1997 as a way to celebrate the borough’s bicentennial year has become an annual tradition, known as Ebensburg Homecoming, in which the community comes together to celebrate summer and welcome former residents home. Pennsylvania’s new state budget includes numerous items big and small reflecting a series of political compromises. Gov. Josh Shapiro outlined some of them ranging from mandatory student recesses at schools to nursing home assistance when he signed the budget Sunday. Pa. appeals court questions opioid trust funding denials

A Pennsylvania appeals court ruled Monday that the trust overseeing opioid settlement funds inappropriately denied two counties funding over their proposed use of the dollars. More than $1 billion in opioid settlement dollars are going to the state’s 67 counties. In one case, Somerset County is seeking to use opioid settlement funds to pay for an outdoors camp for children. In the other, Chester County is seeking to use $52,464.96 to pay the salary of the assistant district attorney who works in the county’s drug court.
