Sheeran speaks on Gaza at concert

PHILADELPHIA -- Ed Sheeran opened a concert Saturday with comments about Gaza after controversy swirled around his tour and supporting acts withdrew in solidarity with opener Macklemore, who was dropped after making pro-Palestinian comments onstage.

Sheeran began the concert alone on stage with no opener, but was joined by other musicians later in the show.

Trump, Mamdani to meet during UN visit

WASHINGTON -- President Donald Trump will meet with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani when Trump travels to the city for the upcoming U.N. General Assembly.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday and at the official mayoral residence, according to Anna Bahr, Mamdani's communications director.

French president backs Canada as EU associate

TORONTO -- French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday backed a proposal for Canada to become the European Union's first associate member as he and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney moved to deepen strategic ties.

The leaders met in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, a French territory just off Newfoundland's coast where France and Canada are separated by only a few miles.

Suspects in president's killing extradited to US

PORT-AU-PRINCE -- Eighteen suspects who were arrested in the July 2021 killing of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse were being extradited to the U.S. on Sunday, marking the end of a drawn-out judicial process in Haiti for a killing that shocked the troubled Caribbean country.

The suspects will face justice in Florida, according to Jason Reding Quiñones, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida.
