Army secretary resigns after 18 months
WASHINGTON -- Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is stepping down after 18 months on the job, the White House said Monday, in the latest departure of a top military leader during the Trump administration.
No reason was given for the departure of Driscoll, who is a friend of Vice President JD Vance, but tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have been widely reported.

Family identifies man killed in flood
GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK -- The bodies of a Texas chiropractor and at least one other person have been found after a major weekend flash flood swept through the Grand Canyon, and forecasters warned more flooding was possible as heavy rain shrouded the canyon walls.
Saturday's flash flood severely damaged the only water pipeline into the canyon. Officials barred tourists from staying at lodges and hotels inside Grand Canyon National Park and issued emergency water restrictions for year-round residents.

Singer D4vd loses lawyers in trial
LOS ANGELES -- Singer D4vd lost his high-profile private lawyers Monday at a hearing where he entered a new not guilty plea to charges that he killed, sexually abused and dismembered 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
It's not clear why Blair Berk and her colleagues Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter parted ways with the indie-pop singer whose legal name is David Anthony Burke.

Sweden to receive four frigates
PARIS -- France and Sweden signed agreements Monday to supply the Nordic country with four modern frigates, strengthening the defenses of NATO's newest member in the strategically important Baltic Sea region, where Russia uses key shipping lanes and airspace.
The ceremony took place during Emmanuel Macron's visit to Sweden as the French president pushes for greater European military autonomy to reduce reliance on the United States.

Volcano eruption prompts high alert
JAKARTA -- Mount Sinabung on Indonesia erupted Monday, spewing a column of black ash and smoke 11,482 feet from the top of the mountain into the sky over Sumatra island.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, evacuations or disruptions to flights in the region. But residents, visitors and tourists were advised to refrain from activities in nearby villages in Karo district in North Sumatra province and areas within 3.7 miles of the summit.

Nation intercepts Iranian drone
DUBAI -- The United Arab Emirates said that it intercepted an Iranian drone over its waters Monday, an attack that comes after the United States and Iran exchanged fire over the weekend for the first time in a month.
In a short statement earlier, the UAE Defense Ministry said it "dealt with" an Iranian drone that was detected over its waters approaching from Iran.
