An Altoona teen has been charged with homicide by vehicle in Cambria County.
State police said Abigail Socie, 19, was the driver of a 2019 Nissan Rogue that crashed into a tree along Beaver Valley Road about 5 a.m. on April 4.
Carter Gallaher, 17, was killed in the accident that also seriously injured another passenger, police reported, noting four people were in the vehicle when it crashed.
When the accident was first reported, 19-year-old Landon Gallaher told police he was driving. After a monthslong investigation, though, police determined Socie was the driver and filed charges last week against her.
According to the affidavit, the four occupants were reportedly at an underage party prior to the crash.
In addition to a felony charge of homicide by vehicle, Socie faces felony charges of aggravated assault and accidents involving death or injury while not licensed, and misdemeanor charges of DUI, DUI by a minor and obstruction of justice. She also faces several summary driving violations.
She was arraigned Friday before Magisterial District Judge Michael Zungali and remanded to the Cambria County Prison, unable to post 10% of $150,000 bail. Bail has since been posted, online court documents state.
Socie's preliminary hearing is set for today before Zungali.
Landon Gallaher, of Flinton, faces misdemeanor charges of tampering with evidence, obstruction of justice and false reports. He has yet to be arraigned, according to online court documents.
