A Bridgefield man was taken into custody after allegedly following a 5-year-old family member into a bathroom and touching her inappropriately.

James Frederick Waxter, 75, was arraigned Thursday by Magisterial District Judge Kayla Hetzel on 25 felony counts, including rape of a child, statutory sexual assault and related charges. He was remanded to the Bedford County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500,000 bail.

The case was filed against Waxter after the victim's mother called state police at Bedford to report that Waxter had sexually assaulted the victim. Officers spoke with the victim's mother at UPMC Bedford and were told that Waxter was visiting their residence along the 100 block of Northgate Park Road in Everett, Bedford County, when she asked him to watch her children so she could take a nap, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

When she woke up, she heard the victim in the bathroom and found the door was locked. Waxter eventually unlocked the door and the victim's mother saw the victim pulling up her pants. As Waxter left the bathroom, he told the victim's mother that nothing happened, the police report states.

The victim then told her mother that Waxter touched her private parts. In an interview at the hospital, the victim told officers that Waxter had rubbed her private area, the report states.

At the Bedford Children's Advocacy Center, the victim told an interviewer that Waxter did "weird things" to her in the bathroom. The victim gave further descriptions of other sexual acts Waxter performed on her and made her perform on him. The victim said this occurred while her brother was playing outside and her mother was taking a nap, the report states.

Waxter is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 14 in front of Hetzel.
