A Woodbury man who was a well-known former funeral home director died after being injured by a falling tree while working on a Hopewell Township property Monday.
Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees reported that Sheldon Weaver, 66, suffered crushing injuries and died at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center on Monday.
Weaver was reportedly cutting trees on the property Monday morning when he became pinned by a fallen tree. After being unable to contact him, Weaver's family called emergency officials who helped track his location.
Weaver was found late Monday afternoon and flown to Conemaugh for treatment, but he died in the operating room, according to reports.
Weaver was a second-generation funeral director, who owned and operated Carn-Weaver Funeral Home and Altoona Area Crematory. After his father's death in 1999, he returned to Woodbury to work alongside his mother at S. Gerald Weaver Funeral Home. He retired in 2021. See the obituary on page A4.
