PATTON -- An early morning house fire along Glendale Lake Road in Clearfield Township caused school buses to reroute on their way to and from the Cambria Heights middle and high school campus Friday morning, officials said.
The abandoned house, located at 134 Glendale Lake Road, just outside of Patton Borough near the "Y" intersection of state Route 36 and Glendale Lake Road, was fully involved when Patton Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 arrived on scene about 2:38 a.m., first assistant fire chief Jerry Brant said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal from Greensburg, Brant said, noting no one was living at the property at the time.
Patton was assisted by the Ashville Volunteer Fire Company, Carrolltown Fire Engine Company, Hastings Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, Hastings Area Ambulance, Loretto Community Volunteer Fire Company and the Northern Cambria-based Hope and Spangler fire companies, Brant said.
Crews were on scene until about 7 a.m., Brant said.
Cambria Heights Superintendent Ken Kerchenske said he received a notification about 5 a.m. Friday that a portion of the road between Patton and the district's campus would be closed. Tri County Transportation's school buses rerouted to Bender Road to avoid the area, Kerchenske said.
Since the incident cleared up Friday morning, the district's student dismissal routes were not impacted, he said.
