The Blair County Mosquito-borne Disease Control Program will conduct a truck-mounted, ultra-low-volume mosquito control operation Thursday, Sept. 3, in parts of Antis Township, Blair Township and Hollidaysburg Borough.
The operation is intended to reduce populations of nuisance mosquitoes and mosquitoes capable of transmitting West Nile virus. Spraying is expected to begin around dusk.
Signs will be posted the day of the operation to notify residents. Areas with high mosquito populations have been identified for treatment, though other areas in or near the three municipalities also may be treated.
Weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances could delay or cancel the operation. If the spraying is canceled, it will be rescheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Residents are asked to remain indoors while truck-mounted spraying is conducted in their neighborhoods. County staff generally turn off the sprayer as a courtesy when residents are outside. However, frequent interruptions can reduce the effectiveness of the treatment in controlling mosquitoes and the potential spread of West Nile virus.
The product being used is Biomist 3+15 ULV, applied at a rate of 0.75 ounce per acre.
