City man to serve 5-10 years in state prison for fatal DUI crash

The city man charged with the death of 17-year-old Lundyn Treese in October 2024 was sentenced Friday afternoon to five to 10 years in a state correctional facility after pleading guilty to all charges.
Jared Paul Detwiler, 21, was facing felony counts of homicide by vehicle while DUI and related charges in connection to the crash.
Family and friends of Treese filled the courtroom, with many wearing light blue T-shirts in her honor. Treese’s mother, father, sister and other friends and family provided victim impact statements during the hearing in front of Senior Judge Timothy M. Sullivan.
In addition to the state sentence, Sullivan ordered Detwiler to pay $700 in fines, pay the cost of prosecution and pay $24,116 in restitution to Treese’s family for the cost of her headstone at Alto Reste Park. Detwiler was also sentenced to two years' probation following his release.
The charges were filed against Detwiler after Treese was ejected and killed in the crash that occurred about 4:09 a.m. Oct. 27, 2024, on the 900 block of the 10th Avenue expressway. Court records show Detwiler had alcohol and the metabolite of cocaine in his system at the time of the crash.
