The Van Zandt VA Medical Center will hold a special ceremony to honor Overdose Awareness Day at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31. The event will take place outside the mental health building (Building 32) at the main medical center, 2907 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.
The ceremony aims to honor those who have lost their lives to overdose and to raise awareness about overdose prevention and the use of naloxone.
To show support for Overdose Awareness, staff will be set up on-site to provide educational opportunities about overdose prevention and the use of naloxone.
In addition, veterans who request it can order naloxone and staff will be available to answer any other questions that veterans or caregivers may have.
The event is open free of charge to veterans, caregivers, survivors and community members to remember those who have been lost and learn how to play a part in preventing future overdoses.
