Three municipalities in Blair County will receive funding through the state's Multimodal Transportation Fund.
According to a news release from Gov. Josh Shapiro's office, Antis Township will receive $300,000 to extend the Logan Valley Trail to Lower Riggles Gap Road. Bellwood Borough will receive $473,000 for Phase 2 of the Main Street Streetscape Project, while Woodbury Township will receive $1,235,000 to replace the Larke Road Bridge.
The funding was announced Monday and includes 50 highway, bridge, aviation, port, bike and pedestrian projects across 27 counties.
These new investments will improve safety, strengthen local economies and enhance mobility across the Commonwealth, connecting communities and people to opportunity, the news release states.
Reflecting PennDOT's commitment to improving locally owned infrastructure, several of the projects will also help local governments address bridges and roadways in need of repair or replacement.
"Whether we're making roadways more accessible to all modes of travel or creating new connections for businesses investing in our communities, we're investing in projects that make people's lives better," said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll.
PennDOT evaluated the applications and made selections based on qualifying criteria which included safety benefits, regional economic conditions, the technical and financial feasibility, job creation, energy efficiency and operational sustainability.
In addition to the Blair County projects, the following regional projects were approved:
– Cambria County -- Gautier Steel Bar Mill LLC, $664,679 to rehabilitate sidewalks along Clinton Street and the Gautier Steel facility.
– Centre County -- College Township, $925,000 for roadway safety and multimodal improvements along the Shiloh Road corridor; Haines Township, $263,692 for improvements to Bartges Road; Union Township, $437,284 for improvements and repaving of Unionville Pike.
– Clearfield County -- Chester Hill Borough, $500,000 for improvements to Rowland Avenue.
– Somerset County -- Brothersvalley Township, $1.6 million to replace the bridge carrying Fogeltown Road over Tubs Run.
PennDOT will begin accepting applications for the next round of MTF grants at 8 a.m. Sept. 14. Applications are due by 4 p.m. Oct. 30. Grant recipients for funding available in summer 2027 are expected to be announced next year.
