Mount Nittany reports measles exposure

Health center officials contact those who may be at high risk

Mount Nittany Health and the Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed two positive measles tests that may have exposed others at Mount Nittany Health facilities.

Potential exposure locations and times include:

– Mount Nittany Health Toftrees, 164 Greenview Drive, State College, on Friday, July 31, between 10 a.m. and noon.

– Mount Nittany Medical Center Emergency Department, 155 Wellness Way, State College, between noon Friday, July 31, and 1 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1.

Mount Nittany Health is actively identifying and contacting individuals who may be at high risk and were present at these locations during the identified timeframes.

People who may have been exposed and are not vaccinated should contact their health care provider or call ExpressCARE at 814-234-6124.

Measles screening questions have been implemented at all Mount Nittany Health outpatient locations. Patients with upcoming appointments who believe they have been exposed to measles or are experiencing symptoms should contact their primary care provider or pediatrician before arriving for their appointment. Individuals scheduling a new appointment who suspect exposure or symptoms should also call ahead for guidance. These steps are essential to help prevent further spread of the virus.

Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that spreads through respiratory droplets. Symptoms typically develop between seven and 21 days after exposure and may include high fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes, Koplik spots inside the mouth and a rash that usually begins on the face before spreading to the rest of the body.

Vaccination remains the safest and most effective way to prevent measles and protect individuals and the broader community from infection.
