A Fishertown man is behind bars after allegedly trying to rape a woman and then beating her when she did not cooperate.
Garet William McIntyre, 22, was arraigned Friday by Magisterial District Judge Kevin R. Diehl on single felony counts of criminal attempt - rape and criminal attempt - sexual assault and a single misdemeanor count of simple assault. He was remanded to the Bedford County Correctional Facility in lieu of $200,000 bail.
The charges were brought against McIntyre after the victim reported a domestic incident and attempted sexual assault to state police at Bedford. The victim told officers she was at her residence along the 130 block of Ford Cab Lane in East Saint Clair Township, Bedford County, when McIntyre asked to have regular sexual intercourse, to which she agreed. The victim said near the end of their encounter, McIntyre attempted to have anal intercourse with her but she shoved him off and attempted to leave the room, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
The victim grabbed the door frame as McIntyre was attempting to drag her back to the bedroom, during which she told him to stop. When the victim was able to break free, she went to the living room to sit. McIntyre then approached and struck the victim twice on the left side of her face and once on her right side, the police report states.
The victim fled to a family member's residence nearby and McIntyre left in the victim's car. Medical records for the victim diagnosed a broken hand and facial contusion, the report states.
McIntyre is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 2 in front of Diehl.
