Detwiler arrested after meth allegedly found in borrowed vehicle

An East Freedom man is behind bars after repeatedly refusing to return a loaned vehicle, which was later found to have methamphetamine hidden inside.
Isaac William Detwiler, 47, was arraigned Sunday by Magisterial District Judge Matthew Dunio on a felony count of possession with intent to deliver and single misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was remanded to the Blair County Prison in lieu of $200,000 bail.
Freedom Township police were dispatched about 6:31 p.m. Saturday to a residence along the 160 block of Irvin Street in East Freedom to look for a missing vehicle and take possession of it. Officers located the vehicle with Detwiler, who lived at the residence, in the driver's seat and another individual in the passenger seat, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
The vehicle owner then arrived and allowed officers to search the vehicle. The subsequent search yielded three bags of methamphetamine weighing about 15 grams; about 100 small, unused zip-top baggies; a digital scale; multiple torch-style lighters and a smoking device. When questioned about the items found in the vehicle, Detwiler admitted to owning the meth, the police report states.
Text messages turned over to police showed that Detwiler arranged to do construction work for the vehicle owner but never completed the job. The vehicle owner had permitted Detwiler to use the vehicle while working on the construction, but repeatedly asked for it to be returned starting on July 27.
There were multiple pleas by Detwiler to keep law enforcement out of the situation.
He had texted the vehicle owner a list of things he had done to the vehicle and said he would not request compensation for the modifications if he "keeps the police out of it," the report states.
Detwiler is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 27 in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger.
