A Clearfield man facing 1,200 felony charges relating to child sexual abuse had a new case filed against him after cleaners found three improvised explosive devices in his former Altoona apartment.
Travis Lee Greenaway, 45, was arraigned Wednesday by Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio on three felony counts of weapons of mass destruction, three misdemeanor counts of possession of an instrument of crime with intent and a misdemeanor count of recklessly endangering another person. Greenaway also waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday, sending all charges against him to the Blair County Court of Common Pleas. His bail in the case is set at $100,000.
Altoona police responded to the Penn Alto apartment building at 1130 13th Ave. on Jan. 20 for a possible improvised explosive device. Workers at the Penn Alto told police they had been cleaning out Greenaway's former apartment to prepare it for the next tenant after Greenaway's arrest in November 2025. While cleaning, workers found a box containing what appeared to be three tubular objects wrapped in black tape with fuses emanating from within, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
Altoona police requested the state police Explosives Ordinance Disposal team to remove and destroy the objects. Officers then went to the Clearfield County Jail to speak with Greenaway, who initially denied knowledge of any explosives or fireworks in his possession or within the apartment. He also said no one had been in the apartment and that he did not allow others access, the police report states.
When given the objects' description, Greenaway said they were likely made by "Michael" but did not know his last name or residence. Greenaway said that in 2023, he had taught Michael about explosives from the Anarchist's Cookbook and had given him safety fuses to create explosives, the report states.
Greenaway is currently scheduled to appear before Judge Joshua S. Maines for a two-day trial in Clearfield County court starting
Sept. 3 in relation to a separate case in which he faces 200 felony counts each of rape of a child and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, as well as 400 felony counts each of sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault - victim less than 13 years old.
The charges were filed in November after a monthslong police investigation revealed Greenaway's alleged sexual abuse of three juvenile family members over decades. One victim in the case described Greenaway as thinking he was the smartest man alive and was above the law, the report states.
His bail in that case was denied, with online court documents stating "no amount of bail can assure the court the safety of any future victims."
