A city man is behind bars after allegedly trying to steal a vehicle out of a Dollar General parking lot while intoxicated.
Erickson Sheirdan McKinnon, 36, was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Benjamin F. Jones on single felony counts of robbery and theft, as well as a single misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. He was remanded to Blair County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.
Williamsburg police were dispatched about 1:56 p.m. Tuesday to the Dollar General Store at 220 E. Second St., Williamsburg, for a male, later identified as McKinnon, attempting to steal a car from the location's parking lot. McKinnon was standing outside the Dollar General when he walked over to a red Suzuki sedan, opened its driver's side door and began to enter the vehicle, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
The vehicle's owner was inside the Dollar General when she looked out the window and saw McKinnon entering her car. The owner ran out of the store and a brief altercation began as the victim had to drag McKinnon out of her vehicle. During the altercation, McKinnon told the owner that "this is my car" and the owner said it was her vehicle and to get out, the report states.
While speaking with McKinnon, officers smelled alcohol coming from his person. McKinnon consented to a preliminary breath test, which came back positive for alcohol, the report states.
McKinnon is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 18 in front of Magisterial District Judge Wendy R. Mellott.
