Claysburg Volunteer Fire Company gets $10,000 grant

Money will fund equipment upgrades, thermal imaging cameras

The Claysburg Volunteer Fire Company recently received a $10,000 grant from Energy Transfer for equipment upgrades, including two thermal imaging cameras.

"It couldn't have come at a better time to replace equipment," Fire Chief Scott Eicher said.

Eicher said the company applied for the grant almost a year ago, and they received the good news about two months ago. Since then, they've purchased the imaging cameras for the department, along with more supplies such as a ProPak foam system and five gallons of foam.

The thermal imaging cameras aid firefighters in finding victims inside a fire, he said, adding that each camera costs about $4,000.

Because their company heavily relies on grants, federal and state funding and community fundraisers, he said these donations make a huge impact on the company's functionality.

"Without crucial fundraising and grants like this, it would be almost impossible," he said.

The department will present the check at their monthly fire department meeting open to the public, slated for 7:30 p.m. at the fire hall, 13223 Dunnings Highway.
