HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The annual deadline for Blair County property owners to appeal a property's assessed value -- a figure used in computing real estate taxes -- is being adjusted this year to Monday, Aug. 3.
The annual deadline is typically Aug. 1, but because that's a Saturday, this year's deadline was extended, Blair County Commissioner Laura Burke announced Thursday during the weekly commissioners' meeting.
To appeal a property's assessed value, the county requires owners complete an assessment appeal form which is available on its website at www.blairco.org and at the assessment office in the basement level of the Blair County Courthouse, 423 Allegheny St.
Completed forms can be filed in person at the assessment office or by mail.
Those appealing their property values will be expected, prior to a hearing before the county's board of assessment appeals, to provide documentation and/or evidence in support of their appeal.
More information about the process is available within the rules posted on the county's website. Questions can also be directed to the assessment office at 814-693-3110.
