Blair County awards $1.4 million road repair contract for County Road 104

HOLLIDAYSBURG -- Blair County commissioners on Thursday awarded a $1.4 million contract for replacement of County Road 104, also known as the Cranberry Road Rehabilitation Project in North Woodbury Township.

Commissioners Amy Webster and Laura Burke voted Thursday to award the contract to Grannas Bros., which submitted the lowest of three bids.

The other two bids came from New Enterprise Stone & Lime, at $1.49 million, and Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., $1.59 million.

Webster, when recently describing the project, said it will progress in phases and involve excavating about a foot deep to remove and replace the road that has deteriorated over the years. The 1.4-mile project, between Route 866 and Orchard Lane, is expected to start in August and wrap up in November.

All right-of-ways necessary for the project have been secured from affected property owners, according to Webster.

In Thursday's weekly commissioners meeting, highway department Supervisor Paul Shaffer advised commissioners that Grannas' bid was close to the estimate that Keller Engineers previously provided.
