City files emergency declaration

Altoona has submitted an emergency declaration in connection with storms that occurred July 5-6, according to a news release from the city.

City residents with property damage caused by those storms should use the following link to report the damage: https://crisistrack.juvare.com/public/blairPA/request.html.

Those residents should also attend a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) event between 2 and 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1650 Clay Ave., Tyrone, where they can speak with representatives of various agencies who may be able to help with recouping storm losses.

Motorcyclist killed in crash

A Hanover man was killed in a motorcycle accident Wednesday afternoon.

Bruce W. Hartz, 76, was riding his motorcycle along Neelyton Road in Dublin Township, Huntingdon County, when he attempted to pass a line of vehicles in a properly posted no-passing zone about 12:46 p.m. July 8, according to state police.

After passing several vehicles by driving in the on-coming traffic lane, Hartz struck the driver’s side of a Jeep Compass, whose driver was turning left onto Hollow Road. Hartz was thrown from his motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene, state police reported.

The Jeep driver was transported to the Fulton County Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Hartz was reported to be wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time of the accident and the Jeep driver was wearing a seat belt.
