Roadwork: PennDOT issues Blair construction, travel update

PennDOT District 9 has issued an update to Blair County construction zones and travel advisories.
Williamsburg Borough, Woodbury Township
Lane restrictions and lengthy delays on Route 866 (High Street and Piney Creek Road) in Williamsburg Borough and Woodbury Township will continue through Friday, June 19.
Drivers can expect lane restrictions and lengthy delays (up to 15 minutes) on Route 866 (High Street and Piney Creek Road) during daylight hours as crews continue drainage pipe construction and impact basin installation along the route.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime, New Enterprise, is the lead contractor for the 1.5-mile, $2.6 million project, which includes tree trimming, drainage improvements, asphalt resurfacing and pedestrian upgrades on Route 866 from one-half mile west of Ridge Road to First Street/Canal Street in Williamsburg.
The project is expected to be completed in November.
Tyrone, Snyder Township
The pavement resurfacing and stabilization project on Route 453 in Tyrone Borough and Snyder Township continues through Friday, June 19, with short delays and an ongoing detour for the northern portion of the route.
Drivers can expect short delays of three to five minutes under daylight flagging operations on Route 453 in Tyrone Borough.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime, New Enterprise, is the lead contractor for the $8.4 million project, which includes resurfacing on Route 453 (East 11th Street/Pennsylvania Avenue/East 14th Street/Lincoln Avenue/West 15th Street) from I-99 to Beastons Road and on Pennsylvania Avenue from Route 453 to Pennsylvania Avenue/South Eagle Valley Road in Tyrone Borough and Snyder Township.
In addition to milling and overlay of pavement and slope stabilization, the project will include guide rail upgrades, ADA curb ramp upgrades, curb and sidewalk replacement, drainage upgrades and new traffic signals and signs.
The project includes a 23.5-mile detour through late August, using Route 453, I-99, the Bellwood Interchange and Skyline Drive/Executive Drive/Cambria Street. The section of Route 453 scheduled for slope and pavement stabilization, about one mile north of Beastons Road, will be closed and impassable during the work.
I-99, from East Freedom to Newry
Lane restrictions, shoulder-width reductions and the potential for short delays continue on I-99 between at mile marker 22 near Exit 23 for Route 36, Route 164 and Roaring Spring in East Freedom, and mile marker 26 near the Newry crossover on I-99.
Through Friday, June 26, drivers can expect lane restrictions, a speed reduction, and short, intermittent delays in both the northbound and southbound lanes from about mile marker 22 to 26 for rumble strip removal and paving in preparation for the long-term lane closures later in the project.
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., State College, is the lead contractor of the 23.02-mile, $24 million project, which includes overlay paving, the rehabilitation of seven dual bridges (four during the 2026 construction season) and the Exit 23 (Roaring Spring/Portage) bridge over I-99 and the installation of five intelligent transportation system dynamic message boards in Allegheny, Blair, Freedom and Greenfield townships.
The overall project is scheduled for completion in June 2028.
I-99, Newry to 17th Street
Short-term delays will continue on I-99 between mile marker 26 in Blair Township and mile marker 33 near the 17th Street exit in Blair County through Friday, June 26.
Drivers can anticipate short delays of three to five minutes for rolling, intermittent delays and shoulder closings in both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-99.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime Inc., New Enterprise, is the contractor for the $26.7 million project, which includes improvements along 10 miles of I-99 from the median crossover near Newry to the 17th Street exit and Tyrone in Blair County.
