A Huntingdon County man was killed in a one-vehicle accident in Franklin County on Thursday.

According to state police, Russell C. Booher, 45, of Mount Union, died as a result of injuries suffered in the 12:41 p.m. crash.

Booher was driving a 2007 Hyundai eastbound on Buchanan Trail when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck an embankment. The vehicle then went through the grass, over a cliff, struck a tree and landed on its roof in Conococheague Creek, the report states.

Passersby were able to remove Booher and his 82-year-old female passenger from the vehicle, police stated.

Booher was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was transported to Meritus Medical Center for suspected minor injuries, according to the report.

The Mount Union Area School District posted a letter to the community, noting that Booher was a Mount Union graduate, a member of the school’s cafeteria staff and a devoted supporter of the district’s athletics program. The district stated that counseling services are available for students, staff and family members.
