Roadwork: Public meeting set to discuss Cove intersection

PennDOT is planning a project to improve the intersection of Route 36 (Woodbury Pike) and Cross Cove Road in Taylor Township. The project will include reconfiguration and reconstruction of the intersection to improve the safety and movement of vehicles through the intersection.

A public meeting and plans display for the project will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at Faith Assembly, 4870 Cove Mountain Road, Roaring Spring.

The plans display will be conducted in an open house format and will include a presentation that will begin shortly after 6 p.m. The comments of all individuals, groups and organizations are welcome.

The meeting location is accessible to persons with disabilities.

Dunnings Highway bridge work will cause delays

Drivers should expect delays on Old U.S. 220/Dunnings Highway south of Duncansville beginning Wednesday, May 20.

There may be short delays from lane restrictions and the narrowing of lanes to a 12-foot width on Dunnings Highway as contractors begin replacing sewer lines. The project is weather dependent.

Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., State College, is the lead contractor for the $5.1 million project that includes the replacement of both the bridge over Blair Gap Run in Allegheny Township and the bridge on Route 3013 over Dry Run in Blair Township, as well as intersection improvement work, inlet repair, curb upgrades and milling and paving. The project is expected to be completed in October.

Bellwood Borough signal work set

There may be short delays under daylight flagging operations at the intersection of East Pleasant Valley Boulevard and Stadium Drive in Bellwood Borough, Antis Township, beginning Monday, May 18, for the start of a traffic signal installation.

M&B Services LLC of Clarion is the lead contractor for the $329,621 project to install a traffic signal at the intersection. The project is expected to be completed in November.

Schools invited to sign up to explore highway careers

PennDOT and the state Department of Education is inviting schools to take advantage of a new opportunity to help young Pennsylvanians explore technical and

highway industry careers. Signups are open for PennDOT’s new Heavy Highway Industry Career Day program, which will bring industry presenters and career pathway information to interested schools starting this fall.

The heavy highway industry includes many skilled jobs such as construction inspector, mechanic, laborer, electrician, stonemason, welder, painter, cost estimator and surveyor.

Any Pennsylvania middle school, high school, or Career and Technical Center may register to host a career day by emailing RA-PDWORKFORCEDEV@pa.gov.

Pavement marker project underway in several counties

There will be lane restrictions and short delays on multiple routes in Cambria, Somerset, and Fulton counties for a recessed pavement marker replacement project through Thursday, May 28.

Contractors will be replacing recessed pavement markers on Route 422 (Benjamin Franklin Highway) in Cambria County, Route 219 in Somerset County and on Route 16 (Buchanan Trail) in Fulton County over the next two weeks.

Work will be done under flagging operations with single-lane restrictions and intermittent and rolling delays.

Penn Line Service Inc., Scottdale, is the lead contractor for the $348,994 project in each of District 9’s six counties. The work is scheduled to be completed in August.

Railroad crossing maintenance scheduled

On behalf of Norfolk Southern Railroad, PennDOT is informing drivers of an upcoming road closure and detour in Barree, Huntingdon County, for railroad crossings maintenance. 

Barree Road in Barree will be closed and detoured for two to three days between Monday, May 18, and Friday, May 22. Length of the closure is dependent on several factors, including track time, equipment issues, and weather. 

The Barree Road detour will use Main Street in Alexandria to Juniata Valley Pike Road in Porter and Logan townships, back to Barree Road.

Route 30 work to ease for holiday travel

PennDOT said there will be a suspension of lane restrictions and delays on Route 30 (Lincoln Highway) in Breezewood, Bedford County, for the Memorial Day holiday.  

Contractors have been completing a concrete patching project in the eastbound lane of Route 30 (Lincoln Highway) between Post House Road and the exit ramp for I-76 PA Turnpike. Lane restrictions will be lifted beginning in the afternoon of Wednesday, May 20, through Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day).

Drivers can expect short delays Monday through Wednesday, May 18-20, and Tuesday through Friday, May 26-29, as the project continues.
