Logan Township planners to consider changes to Cracker Barrel entrance
Residents invited to meeting to discuss possible reconfiguration
The Logan Township Planning Commission intends to invite residents of the neighborhood on Goods Lane next to the commercial complex consisting of Cracker Barrel, the Hampton Inn and Champs to an upcoming meeting to discuss a proposal by the owner of the commercial tract to reconfigure the entrance to the tract — and to the neighborhood.
The current entrance to the commercial tract is the private Charlotte Drive, which is close to, and parallel with, Sunset Drive, the public easternmost entrance to the neighborhood — a neighborhood that includes Peters Drive, Irwin Drive and Russell Drive.
The proposal of commercial tract owner Ozzven LLC is to swap a portion of Charlotte with a portion of Sunset, so the entrance to the commercial tract would become a public right-of-way, while also becoming the entrance to the neighborhood via a right-angle turn through an existing emergency access between Charlotte and Peters a block from Goods Lane — with the change allowing Ozzven to incorporate the vacated section of Sunset into lots it owns on either side of Sunset, rendering that combination developable.
The change could benefit the neighborhood by allowing residents to enter and leave at the traffic light that currently controls access to the commercial property alone at Charlotte Drive — so the residents could then come and go from any direction, in contrast to the right turn only in and out at Sunset Drive.
The change could also cause issues for residents by permitting access to and from the neighborhood for customers of the commercial properties, at least one commissioner noted.
The neighborhood already has a traffic-light controlled access at the intersection of Russell Drive and Goods Lane, a block west of Sunset.
The commission is advisory, and the decision on whether to approve the Sunset vacation request is the supervisors’ to make.
The Blair Companies manages the property for Ozzven, according to information provided at the meeting.
