The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Bedford will host a trio of summer painting workshops designed to inspire creativity and help artists of all skill levels explore new techniques and mediums. Taking place throughout June and July, these hands-on workshops will feature instruction from regional artists Meaghan Troup, Collin Cessna and Susan Bragg.

The series begins with “Learn the Magic of Palette Knife Painting” with artist Meaghan Troup on from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6. This workshop invites participants to paint a vibrant summer landscape using oils and palette knives while learning techniques to build texture, layer color and create movement. Troup’s approachable instruction makes the workshop ideal for beginners while still offering valuable insight for experienced artists. All supplies are included. The workshop fee is $35 per person, and participants must be 18 or older. Registration is encouraged by June 4.

Next up is “Explore the Wonders of Watercolor,” a three-session watercolor workshop led by Susan Bragg slated to be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Fridays, June 26, July 3 and July 31. Participants will build skills in color mixing, shapes, shadows, substrates and abstract watercolor exploration. Designed for all experience levels, the workshop encourages creativity and confidence in a supportive environment. The cost is $30 per class, and participants must be 18 or older. Students are required to bring their own supplies, and a recommended supply list will be emailed upon registration. Space is limited.

The final workshop in the series, “Intro to Casein Painting Workshop,” will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 27. Led by artist Collin Cessna, the class introduces participants to casein paint, a versatile medium known for its matte finish and vibrant color. Students will explore casein painting techniques for landscapes, portraits, wildlife and still life subjects. The workshop is open to beginners and experienced artists alike, with all supplies provided. Cost is $35 per person for ages 18 and older. Registration is due by June 22.

“These workshops provide a wonderful opportunity for artists to explore new mediums, sharpen their skills, and spend time creating in an encouraging atmosphere,” said SAMA organizers. “Whether someone is just beginning their artistic journey or has years of experience, there is something inspiring for everyone this summer.”

Space is limited for all workshops, and advance registration is encouraged. For more information or to register, visit Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at https://www.sama-art.org, call 814-589-3020 or email bedford@sama-art.org. SAMA is also on Facebook and Instagram @SAMAbedford.
