ASO outreach planned

Children ages 3-6, plus their caregivers, can learn about music with members of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, in the theater at the Altoona Area Public Library.

Children will be introduced to the beauty and joys of the symphony during this unique, hands-on program, which is ideal for families who are seeking ways to introduce music to children.

The program includes music exploration using multimedia and hands-on presentations.

Register by calling 814-946-0417 ext. 123 or register online at https://docs.google. com/…/1rheYYMrt6y4Ujon9Fk4D…/preview.

Say farewell to the chickens

The Altoona Area Public Library will be saying goodbye to the chickens from 4 to 5 p.m. May 28.

This is the last chance to catch up with the chickens that were hatched at the library earlier this month.

Children will learn how to prepare the chicks to travel to their new coop. Register by calling 814-946-0417 ext. 123.

AAPL Summer Quest to kick off

The Altoona Area Public Library will kick off its Summer Quest 2026 with the Air Weaver Big Balloon show at 6 p.m.

June 12 in the Altoona Area High School auditorium, 1415 Sixth Ave., Altoona.

This show is free and open to those who have a library card (at least one library card required per family).

Anyone in need of a free library card should contact the library at 814-946-0417 ext 123.

The Air Weaver Big Balloon Show combines balloons, magic and silliness to create a truly one-of-a-kind experience that will delight children and adults alike.

Passes available to 4th grade students

Fourth grade students can receive a pass for free access to federal parks, lands and waters by registering and printing out the free pass at www.everykidoutdoors.gov.

The pass is for fourth grade students only and expires Aug. 31. While the pass is for the student, it will admit all children under 16 and adults who accompany the fourth-grade student in the same vehicle. If you arrive on bicycle, it covers all children under 16 and up to three adults on bicycles.

When visiting a federal site, show your pass to a ranger when you enter. If there is no ranger, leave it on the dashboard of your car.

The pass is specifically for federal sites and doesn’t cover fees for local, city or state parks and recreation areas unless they say that they accept this pass.

To find out more, visit everykidoutdoors.gov.

Teachers can sign up their fourth grade students, according to the state Department of Education.

This program was launched in 2015 and is set to end this year.

Starting at $2.99/week.
