Blair County commissioners choose firm for energy audit

Commissioners vote to approve McClure Co.

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Blair County will rely on the McClure Co. to conduct an energy conservation audit of county properties.

Commissioners voted Thursday to work with McClure representatives, who are expected to identify inefficient use of energy and propose potential projects for commissioners to consider. The company’s closest office is in State College.

In April, commissioners acknowledged the receipt of four responses from companies interested in creating a County Facility Energy Conservation Services Program. Besides McClure, the others who responded were Constellation Co., Siemens Industry Inc. and SitelogIQ.

Commissioners said Thursday that McClure will move forward with its efforts at no cost to the county. But McClure is expected to be involved in recommended projects — subject to commissioners’ approval — with a goal of cutting energy costs and/or related operational improvements.

Pennsylvania — through its Municipal Opportunities for Retrofits and Energy Efficiency (MORE) Program — currently offers grants and loans to local governments to undertake infrastructure improvements aimed at reducing demands for electricity.

Starting at $2.99/week.
